How to Actually Fix Damaged Hair

1. Use a moisture-rich hair dye

Many hair dyes, including those recommended by the Beauty Lab, contain conditioning ingredients to preserve and repair hair during the coloring process.

Choose a semi- or demi-permanent formula for gray coverage; it fades quicker but is gentler than a permanent dye.

2. Only dye your roots

Having long, healthy hair depends not only on the products you use on your hair, but also on what you put in your body.

Meats and other foods abundant in protein, the building blocks of hair, are examples.

3. Shield hair from the sun

The Beauty Lab suggests wearing a hat to shelter hair from the sun, which can cause damage at high exposure levels.

The tightly woven hat can prevent sunburns and skin cancer on the cranium.
