Natalie Portman believes women 'can't afford' the 'luxury' of method acting
Known for her iconic role in Black Swan, Natalie Portman opened up about method acting for actresses.
Natalie lost 20 pounds to play a ballerina in Black Swan, her Oscar-winning role. She spent 10 months strengthening for Thor: Love and Thunder and is presently working on Todd Haynes' May December.
She will play Elizabeth Berry, who studies women's motivations in the film.
Method acting, founded by Konstantin Stanislavsky, involves actors immersing themselves in their characters even when they're not on camera or stage, the actress told the Wall Street Journal.
She believes it's a method ladies "can't afford" despite never doing it. Method actors include Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver, Jared Leto in Suicide Squad, Jeremy Strong in The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Lady Gaga in House of Gucci.
The magazine quoted her: "I've gotten into roles, but I think ladies can't afford them. Making everyone call me ‘Jackie Kennedy’ all the time wouldn't be very acceptable to my kids or partners."
In the 2016 film Jackie, directed by Pablo Larraín, Natalie portrayed former President John F. Kennedy's wife, Jacqueline Kennedy.
IMDb says "First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy fights through grief and trauma to regain her faith, console her children, and define her husband's historic legacy."
